About us

Who we are

Canberra City Pipes and Drums was formed and registered as an incorporated body in the ACT in November 1991. It was formed with two purposes:

  1. To provide an outlet for pipers and drummers who no longer wished to compete but wished to continue playing their instruments in a band setting, and

  2. To become the premier ceremonial band in the region.

In 1993 the band was appointed as the honorary band to the Australian Federal Police. In 2005 the status of the AFP affiliation was upgraded when Canberra City Pipes and Drums was asked to be the official AFP Band and now is known as the AFP Pipes and Drums as well as the Canberra City pipes and Drums.

In 2006 the band was invited to participate in the International Police Tattoo in Adelaide and was subsequently invited to participate in the 2008 International Police Tattoo. In December 2006 the Band received an invitation to participate in the Kremlin Zoria which takes place in Moscow in September 2007.
